The
Youth-Quake
I chose the youth-quake as my topic
because, honestly it sounded like one of the least boring from the other ones I
saw in the text book at the time. I was gravely mistaken, the youth –quake was the
most uneventful and most boring topic I think I could have chosen, but oh well
I chose it so here I go. The youth-quake started in the 1960’s in the UK and
Europe in general, and then quickly swept America and Canada. The main players
in the youth-quake would have to be the bands, such as The Beatles and The Who;
but besides bands magazines such as Vogue started to become very popular and
started sending trends all of the U.S. and Canada. This was commonly known as
the “British Invasion,” and it all started when the Beatles performed live on
the Ed Sullivan Show.
Everything that affected American
culture in turn affected Canadians, as things like miniskirts and boy band
became popular in America, Canada also adapted to the love of these things and
became essentials to popularity. The implications from the youth-quake to Canada
today would be the music we listen to, the fashion styles, and even our
thoughts on war. The most important points of the youth-quake would have to be without
a doubt how it affected politics, and how people think about war. Ever since
the youth-quake people have been leaning towards peace and prosperity in the
world; people don’t want to fight wars anymore and everyone just wants peace.
